Semarang – The Applied Foreign Languages Study Program of the Vocational College at Diponegoro University successfully conducted the Project-Based Learning: Tour Guiding Japanese Tourists program in collaboration with the Women’s Association Exchange (婦人会交流イベント) on Sunday, May 24, 2026. Taking place at Building E of the Vocational School, the event was designed to provide students with hands-on learning experiences while fostering cultural exchange and mutual understanding between Indonesian and Japanese participants through a series of interactive workshops and activities.
To enhance the cultural exchange experience, the Women’s Association Exchange program was organized into several thematic classes held in different rooms. Following the opening session in Room E.2.1, participants joined their assigned classes, which included a Saman Dance class, an Indonesian Language class, a Gado-Gado cooking class, and a traditional Indonesian games class. Through these activities, participants were able to gain a deeper understanding of Indonesian language and culture while interacting directly with students from the Applied Foreign Languages Study Program.
In Room E.1.1, participants took part in a Saman Dance class. Applied Foreign Languages students introduced the basic movements and cultural significance of the dance in Japanese to ensure that the participants could easily follow along. The participants enthusiastically practiced the movements and performed them together throughout the session.
Meanwhile, Room E.1.3 hosted a Gado-Gado cooking class that offered participants a hands-on culinary experience. Before the cooking session began, Applied Foreign Languages students introduced the history of Gado-Gado, explained the ingredients required, and distributed recipe booklets to all participants. The participants were then divided into three groups and guided by the students through the process of preparing peanut sauce, mixing the seasonings, and assembling the dish independently. The session concluded with everyone enjoying the Gado-Gado they had prepared together.
Through its collaboration with the Women’s Association Exchange (婦人会交流イベント), the Applied Foreign Languages Study Program of Diponegoro University once again demonstrated its commitment to creating meaningful international learning opportunities while introducing the richness of Indonesian culture to the global community through engaging and memorable intercultural experiences.
